The Universe is a set of islands that will be built off the coast of Dubai, United Arab Emirates. They will form a cluster of islands in the shape of the solar system. The Universe will have 3,000 hectares of land and will take 15 to 20 years to build. Nakheel, the same company building the Palm Islands and The World, will develop The Universe. The Universe will be located between the Palm Jumeirah, The World, the Jumeirah coast and the Palm Deira. The project, which was announced in January 2008, is still in the planning stages. It will be dredged by Van Oord, the same company used for The World, and the Palm Islands.

being a local i think that dubai has really reached and flew over its standards.. we, as citizens have tried to make our country a place where new things happen and bring more business and money to our country to put it on the map... and we succeed, having the first ever man made island and now as i can see the first ever underwater hotel.
this country will be better than any other country abroad, i bet you my life...

this has pushed dubai into the international eye. i hear about this project all the time. i cannot wait 20yrs for it, even then im sure its gonna take tha much longer...
As intriguing as the idea sounds, can't help but feel uneasy about the number of offshore project being done. I just hope all this is not a disaster waiting to happen. But my unease aside, sign me up for mercury.
This is an amazing project. I saw a documentary about the special sand needed to make the islands and how it has to be compacted. It's a massive undertaking.
